2012 Exceptional Fun Day!
Sunday saw the 2nd Annual club outing to Crosby Lakeside Activity Centre. The weather was kind thankfully and we had a great turnout with 35 swimmers taking the opportunity to take part in a fun filled day of raftbuilding and Kayaking. From the off a great time was had. The swimmers excelled themselves in organising themselves into groups and their attitude and behaviour was a credit to BNLSC. In the morning session one of the rafts lost a drum and 3 passengers within minutes of departure. Mollie, Lydia and Jasmin found out very quickly just how cold the lake was! The boys were to be admired for taking the 'leap of faith' and swimming for shore after their Kayaking session. Steven Newton managed to find a keep sake for his memory box and came back with a crab claw (thankfully the dead frog was left where it was!!).
After a lovely lunch where hot chocolate and chips was very much the order of the day, the groups switched their activities. The Kayakers set off on their way (more about that later). The rafts were built, launched and the boys promptly collapsed! Alex Farrell was 'rescued' by the speedboat, taken straight to the girls craft and dumped ceremoniously on the back of it. There was more chance of the Titanic staying afloat and Jessica Taubman soon learnt just how cold the lake was too! Thanks to Zoe Webb for taking one for the team and going in after her! a speedboat was swiftly dispatched!
Back to the Kayakers. As they appeared on the horizon, various 'camouflage' disguises could be made out. The girls had taken a wander on the beach and decided to roll in the mudflats to enjoy an impromptu facial 'mudpack'!
Highlights of the day?
As usual we need to give a great big shout out to Glynn Sands and Mike Woodruff at Sefton Leisure Services for enabling us to put on this fantastic day for our swimmers. You both have played a massive part in this years day out - Thankyou.
Finally, let me go back to a comment I made earlier. Every single one of our swimmers behaved impeccably. I was extremely proud of each and every one of them.
Here's to next year!

2011 Exceptional FUN DAY!
Following on from various club based fundraising activities, today saw the 1st event to benefit from the money raised. A fun and exciting Activity Day was arranged at Crosby Lakeside Activity Centre. A sizeable discount was arranged by Glynn Sands and Mike Woodruff (Senior Managers of Meadows Leisure Centre and Crosby Lakeside - much thanks!) which meant that participants and the club met in the middle to meet the cost of the day.
After an early start over 40 swimmers (and a few deluded adult volunteers) were divided into groups to participate in 4 activities overall (Kayaking, Raftbuilding, Bellboating and Windsurfing) throughout the day. A photographer from the Liverpool Echo attended and photo's of the day should be printed next week in the junior sports 'extra' section - watch out!
Initially there was a problem with the the group ratio's planned for certain activities meaning that some children had to swap to different activities to the ones originally selected. They did this with real maturity, and this deserves praise. Overall there were many 'special' moments, unfortunately too many to mention individually, but to give a snapshot, here are a few:

- Megan Birchall was officially the 1st BNLSC member to take the plunge (head submerged and everything!)
- Katy Todd is the best Windsurfer...ever...having to be rescued by a speedboat after heading towards Ireland (Really...well maybe not Ireland)
- Sean Craven - wardrobe malfunction
- Robyn McGarry who rolled over an oil drum, only to be run over by the same oil drum
- Kate O'Brien - too tall to be able to stand upright on a surf board
- Mollie Byrne and Lydia Hickson cannot stand up in a kayake and stay dry
- Outstanding Oscar perfromance of the day goes to Ella Meath-Davies...."CAN I GET OUT NOW PLEEEEEEEASE"
- AND FINALLY.....Liam Carlin. You may have thought it a good idea to push Neil in, however as he reminded you, he always gets his own back...maybe not the best move you have ever made.......................BE AFRAID!
