Open Water Swimming Development Flyer
Following on from last year’s Open Water Taster and Development Sessions, the North West Region is continuing with a programme of Open Water Swimming Development. Once again we will be providing a series of taster and development sessions to the Swimmers from North West Region Clubs. This year will also feature’s a competition – The NW Region Open Water Swimming Championships which will go ahead subject to approval on July 19th at Salford Water Sports Centre.
The National Development Plan for Open Water Swimming has been launched following our success in Beijing and the NW Region will be providing the actual open water experience to attract and prepare NW Region swimmers for future success.
We will be organising a series of ‘Taster Sessions’ at Salford Quays for those without Open Water experience and would like to invite any swimmer interested who would meet the desirable criteria below.
Aged 13 and over and capable of Swimming under 5 Minutes for 400 Metres FC
Training a minimum of 10 Hours a week at their club
Possess a willingness to learn, follow stringent Health and Safety guidelines and an enthusiasm for Long Distance Swimming in an Open Water environment
If you are interested the taster session would involve –
A Short Presentation on Open Water Swimming, associated risks and necessary safety precautions. [15 Minutes]
Health and Safety Advice & Guidelines distributed

Open Water Taster Session for 30 Minutes in Salford Quays
If you attended the Taster Presentation last year we can send you a Health & Safety reminder sheet to sign and you can then attend the Development Sessions. All athletes who wish to enter the Competition must have attended a Presentation unless you can prove that you have previous open water experience in competition.

Taster Sessions / Presentations will be on Saturdays from 11.30 – 1:30
4 to 6 Additional Development / Training Sessions will be organised for those who have attended a Taster Session in 2008 or 2009. Details of the NW Open Water Championships will follow.
