On Saturday 26th January 2013 a dedicated group of our swimmers volunteered to take part in a fundraising 'bagpack' at Morrison's Superstore in Ormskirk. Not having done this sort of activity before we were unsure of what to expect and the heavy snowfall the night before seemed to be a bad Omen.....however, relentless we decided to go ahead with a 4 hour stint between 11am and 3pm. Our younger volunteers were teamed with older swimmers, and it was good to see our 2013 Boys & Girls Captains and Vice Captains turn out to support the club and to act as role models for our swimmers. A competition was soon underway to see who could collect the most money on the day. The results were:
1st - Zoe Webb/Jessica Taubman
2nd - Rachael Webb/Ella Meath-Davies (Rachael has put in an objection that they started an hour after everyone else!!)
3rd - Jo Taubman/Joseph Taubman
Parents turned up and volunteered to take part. I would like to personally thank Joanne Taubman, Sharon Farrell, Michelle Bolger, Mrs Newton (sorry don't know your 1st name!) and Tony Hampson for pitching in. Thanks also to Lynn Billingham, Neil Webb & Rachael Webb for helping as usual (expected but grateful all the same x).
As always, I have a few highlights to point out:
1. Quote of the day goes to Ella Meath-Davies......on spying three 20 litre bags of compost saying (quite seriously)..."They won't fit in a carried bag you know!"
2. Michelle Bolger spent the next 3 days taking medication for a bad back!
3. Parents turning up and deliberately going through the tills 'manned' by their own children (you know who you are and were very generous!)
4. Oliver Hutchinson actually shopping with his parents and swearing he didn't know a thing about the 'bagpack'!
5. Steven Newton scrutinising every item he packed to see if he would like to eat it...
6. Grace Lees-Hampson eating lunch without spilling it down herself.
Anyway, all in all it was a very positive experience. As always our swimmers behaved impeccably and did the club proud.....and do you know how much we raised in 4 small hours???
£711.12p (and 21 cents....some people!!!)
Without doubt this is something we will be doing again and it would be good to see more volunteers taking part. The money raised will be used purely for the benefit of swimmers, possibly a subsidised day out in the Spring.
I am so proud of the relatively small group that turned out and really made a difference. Thank you all so much.
