Trial Tickets and Membership for The Meadows
So, bright and early this morning, Myself, Neil, Steve, Lynne, Barb and Sue rocked up for the official tour........what can I say, other than fantastic ! Mike and Glynne were there to welcome us, looking extremely tired, but also extremely proud, and they have every right to do so...the whole building is exceptional. Steve hit it on the nail when he said "our kids now have every chance to be the best.."
The pool is simply fantastic, and we have been given everything we asked for, from storage space to notice boards and even a trophy cabinet ( I believe!!). It's going to be a real learning curve moving into The Meadows, but we feel we are well on the way to establishing a good working relationship with the staff, much as we have for so many years at Deyes Lane.
Perhaps one of the most telling statements came from Glynn Sands. I asked how many tickets had been issued for the VIP weekend. He said 1000. I expressed surprise that he had allocated such a large amount of the quota (200) to the club. Glynn simply said that it was no surprise, after all we are their resident swimming club. It feels like a major turning point for the club, and we are ready for the challenges ahead.
One final reminder, through the club links page, you will automatically be taken to The Meadows website. For the next seven days, if you complete a membership for The Meadows, you will receive a 15% discount on the 1st years membership. Glynn and Mike have confirmed that this offer will be extended only to BNLSC members and families over the weekend of 28th & 29th November, during the VIP visits. Please consider this money saving offer, you can take in a gym session or aerobic class whilst your child is training!
We've also been asked to advise you that Library memberships can be taken out during the VIP visits.
I'm sure the 1st week or two will be a bit frantic, please bear with us as we adjust to the new surroundings. The usual desk will be in place with the usual suspects manning it, look out for us to help you - and if you feel like buying us a coffee, please feel free to do so...!
Thanks
Mary
Tadpoles Final Results
As the last gala the BAGCATS were also awarded for the tournament and we are very proud to announce that 4 of our swimmers took top 6 positions within their age groups! Mattea-Jay Oliver gained 2nd place for the 9 yr girls. Jamie Grayson took 6th place fo the 9 yr boys. Kate OBrien took 5th place for the 11 yr girls and Rebecca Meadows took 5th place in the 12 yr girls. Congratulations to them all but also to every BNLSC swimmer that represented themselves so well at this tournament across a long 13 weeks!
New Pool Info!
The last ever session at Deyes for BNLSC will be 10:15am to 12:00 midday for our senior squad swimmers (who normally swim 12:00 midday - 2:00pm). Apologies to our younger swimmers for cancelling your sessions, but Gala commitments have forced our hands.
New sessions will start at "The Meadows" on Monday 30th November. The sessions we have negotiated are as follows:-
Monday - 7pm to 9pm Thursday - 7pm to 9pm Sunday - 6pm to 8pm
****Wednesday sessions at Bootle North Park leisure remain unchanged****
Obviously, we are trying hard to accomodate existing sessions, but it is inevitable that some changes will need to be made. During the close down week, all swimmers will receive by post to their home address a letter advising what their new sessions will be. There may be a very limited scope to switch sessions, but we must stress limited scope.
Once the offer of sessions have been made, any queries should be made via the club mobile: 07936367749.
We would like to take this opportunity to Thank all the staff at Deyes Lane pool for their help and humour over the years, and also extend our Thanks to swimmers and their families for their continued loyalty to BNLSC. This is an exciting time for the club and it's members as we move forward.
We have been offered a number of VIP passes for volunteers, swimmers and their families to experience "The Meadows" before it is officially opened to the public. The passes are for Saturday 28 November, and Sunday 29 November, and will allow you to have a look around the new facility, and to have a complimentary swim. Details of how to obtain the passes will be sent out with the session letters.

Aquateer Roadshow - Swim 21
So, on Saturday 3rd October, Claudia Barnes and Georgia Bradley headed off to Liverpool Aquatic Centre to join in the fun along side swimmers from other local clubs. On arrival they were introduced to the 2009 World Champion & Olympic silver medalist swimmer Kerri Anne Payne who put them through their paces in the pool, led them in a presentation, and afterwards participated in a one to one meet and greet where the girls got their pictures taken with Kerri Anne.
The pictures show what a great time our swimmers had. They also displayed their commitment to the club, as straight after the roadshow, the girls headed straight down the motorway to meet the rest of the BNLSC squad to compete in the National Arena League in Bury. ASA National Age Group Finals
This gala is considered to be the end of season grand finale where the nation’s best compete against each other and some from further afield as well (Turkey & Ireland will have competitors). Both girls will be following the footsteps of Steve Parry, Michael Rock & Francesca Halsall, all of whom have competed at this event in previous years.
The National Age Group Gala is being held from the 22nd - 26th July 2009 for those girls aged under 14 and boys aged under 15 at the date of the last day of the competition. This year’s qualifying times were set at the expected high level with each swimmer having to achieve their times at an ASA licensed gala during the qualifying time period. However the qualifying period did include local opportunities at galas such as, City of Liverpool Winter Meet, the LancashireCounty championships and the North West Regional finals.
The entire Gala finals are rumoured to be going out on a live internet stream via the British Swimming website but this has not been confirmed as yet. So, if this does turn out to be true and you wish to log on, please do and cheer on our girls. Emma will be competing throughout the gala as an individual in the 100m & 200m backstroke, 100m 200m & 400m freestyle, 200m IM and as part of a 400 medley and a 400m freestyle relay team. Sophie will be competing as part of a 400 freestyle relay team. Simply to have attained standards that allow both of the girls to be at this tournament is exceptional and as a club we are not only proud of their performances but we wish them the very best in the coming weeks!

Club Champs and "Sharons Caff"
The 3rd Club Championships have today been a great day and they were supported hugely by parents and friends of the swimmers. It is great to see so many people at the Championships and as a result "Sharons Caff" has again been able to raise over £60 in generated cash for our Swimmers! Congratulations to every swimmer who took part and as always thanks to the coaches, timekeepers, front desk staff, Sharons Caff team and Neil for pulling it all together.
M&D Gala Report - 9th May 2009.
Yet again another EXCELLENT M&D Gala at Crosby Leisure Centre. It was neck and neck throughout between Crosby Swimming Club and Bootle and North SC but the strength of Bootle and North swimmers proved too much as we edged ahead in the final stages to eventually win by 14 points. Congratulations to all swimmer who certainly swam their hearts out and were behind each other all the way! It is hope the cancelled Gala at Wallasay will be re-arranged in the next few weeks - details to follow. Well done again to all the swimmer and supporters!!
M&D - Club Champs - Breakfast!
Good Luck to the Swimmers in the up and coming M&D. Your efforts to date have been excellent and every club member wishes you the best for Saturday.
No rest at all however as we hit the Club Championships on Sunday with an 11AM warm up.
Some would argue most importantly however is the knowledge that our lovely "Dinner Ladies" will again be cooking our Breakfast requests at the Club Champioships so as before :-
As part of the fundraising programme for the Club, we will be offering refreshments of
Tea - Coffee - Toast - Sausages - Bacon - Teacakes - Hotdogs
All for a very reasonable price. All proceeds from the refreshments are used on children of the club. If you have any ideas on how we can spend funds, please speak to any member of the Committee.
Radford Swimming Club 27th Open Meet 2/3 may 2009
We are writing more and more positive notes in the last few weeks and the Radford Swimming Club meet is another opportunity to highlight the big contribution made by our BNLSC swimmers, whilst representing the City of Liverpool S C at the Level 2 Meet at Ponds Forge Sheffield this weekend. We do not have all the results as they have not been posted on the web as yet but the medal results are as follows for our own Swimmers.
Emma Grayson 1st 100m free, 200m free, 200IM, 200m back. 2nd 50m free & 400m free. Emma also won the Bagcats for 11 year old girls which is not surprising when you look at her performances across so many events!
Kate O'Brien 1st 50m Back and Sophie Sheppard 2nd 50m Fly have also won medals and again BNLSC passes on our congratulatuions to all 3 girls. City of Liverpool SC did eventually win the Top Club for the meet and I think we can all see the contribution that our own swimmers made during the event.
The 40th National Swimming League Cup Final was completed this weekend by City of Liverpool
Emma Grayson represented the City of Liverpool this weekend at the 40th National Swimming Cup Final. She had a fantastic 2nd in the girls 11yrs under 50M Back alongside other team and individual races. Well Done to Emma!
Bootle and North celebrate another M&D Victory
Another excellent performance by all swimmers at the M&D Gala held at Crosby Leisure Centre and, despite trailing throughout the gala to Crosby we snatched the lead in the very last event to win by only 1 point. Well done to all swimmers and we're looking forward to the next round which will be held on Saturday 9th May 2009 also in Crosby Leisure.
Easter Raffle
Even Humpty Dumpty would have had a smashing time entering our Easter Egg Raffle at the last Club Championships! For those who have not noticed we have worked a clever egg theme into this story! Eggcellent idea dont you think? Anyway this is a serious issue and I am not yoking... I have loads you know! The winners of the raffle were Joseph and Thomas Turnbull so congratulations to them and thanks to everybody who purchased a ticket allowing the raffle to raise just short of £50! As ever all the cash raised will go directly towards the swimmers.
Pilates Session gives a new dimension to our training.
The first Easter session witnessed the clubs first involvement with Pilates and it was not only very educational but created a great deal of fun for the swimmers. We assume it was fun as most of the swimmers were constantly bent double so we can only guess they were laughing out loud whilst attempting to gain the perfect abdominals. Of course they could have been in a good deal of pain if the mumbles were anything to go by! Thank you to the coaches as ever and well done to the 20 swimmers who decided to take this additional session during their bank holiday weekend.
Easter Swimming sessions scheduled for the older swimmers at Deyes on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th April. Steve will run a programme on both days with the Saturday including a dry session from around 11.45am for 45 minutes. Ensure you bring the relevant clothing kit. This session was carried out last year and proved positive so we look forward to seeing you on both days.
Cafe Fund Raiser
The cafe at yesterdays Club Championships raised over £75. This is double the profit we made at the last club champs. A huge thankyou to everyone who contributed, by buying a bacon buttie or a raffle ticket. All of the money raised will be used on the swimmers of the club. If you have any ideas on how to spend this money, please send them in by using this website or let any member of the committee know, the names are on the noticeboard. If you have not yet bought a raffle ticket for the Easter Hamper, don't miss out! They are only 50p a strip! Mary Webb will be selling tickets all week during swimming sessions on the desk at Deyes Lane. The winning ticket will be drawn on Sunday 5th April. Results will be published on the website. Full details of the total money raised will be updated when the raffle has been drawn.
2nd Club Championships completed - A great day well supported by all!
The Breaststroke Championships were well supported and albeit a little more daunting for some of our Swimmers it was pleasing to again see good numbers representing in IM. All Times have now been published under the Swim Times Link. The Club would like to thank our "Dinner Ladies" again who have done a sterling job in both providing us with refreshment and food whilst helping to raise much needed funds for the Swimmers too.
Today we also had Podium Sport selling swimming gear at the championships. We decided that rather than the club ask for a donation we would prefer the discount to be passed straight to the individuals purchasing the goods. We hope you all managed to get some good deals! We have added a link to the Podium Sport site and feel free to mention you are affiliated to the Bootle and North Liverpool Swimming Club.
The next Club Championships will be held on the 29th March. As part of the fundraising programme for the Club, we will be offering refreshments of Tea - Coffee - Toast - Sausages - Bacon - Teacakes - Hotdogs
All for a very reasonable price. All proceeds from the refreshments are used on children of the club. If you have any ideas on how we can spend funds, please speak to any member of the Committee. Full details of Committee members are on the Club notice board and of course the Website Homepage.
Lancashire Performance to merit from our Swimmers!

Emma Grayson never finished below 3rd in the 4 races she entered with a fantastic Winning position in the 11 yrs 100M Back, 2nd in the 50M Back, 3rd in the 100M Free and finally a 3rd in the 200M IM. The Lancashire tournament is a grouping of the top swimmers in the region so I think we can all agree that our swimmers have all done extremely well in qualifying but even better to ensure they have remained more than competitive in such a high standard tournament!
Open Water Swimming Opportunity
Following on from last year’s Open Water Taster and Development Sessions, the North West Region is continuing with a programme of Open Water Swimming Development. Once again the COLSC will be providing a series of taster and development sessions to the Swimmers from North West Region Clubs. This year will also feature’s a competition – The NW Region Open Water Swimming Championships which will go ahead subject to approval on July 19th at Salford Water Sports Centre. To understand more - Swim North West Open Water
Lancashire County Championships
Congratulations to the Bootle and North Liverpool Swimmers who have qualified for the Lancashire County Championships. We have 5 representative swimmers, Jenny Howarth, Sophie Sheppard, Emma Grayson, Kate O'Brien and Liam Carlin. The Club wishes these individuals the very best in the coming two weekends!
City of Liverpool Swim Camp in Majorca
We have had confirmation that Jenny Howarth and Sophie Sheppard have been selected to visit this training camp in Majorca in October of this year. This is a great opportunity for both of the girls and we really hope they enjoy and benefit from the intense training schedule they are sure to experience. Well Done Girls.
Club Champs - Times Published
1st March saw the first Club Championships of the year. Take a look at the published swimming times for what was an excellent set of results on the day. Well done to every winner and to all those that tested themselves on the day. Many of you will have noticed our new canteen facilities and I am reliably told that alongside the breakfast options we will have Tea available on March 29th for our next Championships. All money raised goes towards the Swimmers so forget the waistlines and continue to indulge! Obviously we thank our 3 lovely "Dinner Ladies" and very much look forward to their efforts at the next meet.
M&D Gala 4 victory for Bootle and North Liverpool
An outstanding performance by all swimmers at the M&D, Gala 4 held in Connah's Quay. With 24 wins out of 50 events it was a great gala for Bootle & North Liverpool SC, who lead throughout the gala, 33 points ahead of the second placed team. Swimmers and supporters got behind the team all the way. The gap has certainly been closed between the current division leaders Crosby and with 3 more gala's remaining in the division, Bootle & North Liverpool SC are getting stronger and stronger, the chase to be Division 2 Champions is still within our sights!! Well done again to all swimmers!
City of Liverpool 50M Sprints at Picton
A great day for our City representatives gaining a combined medal tally of 5 Golds, 7 silvers and 1 Bronze. We do not have all the specifics on how many PB's but from a maximum of 27 races we hit over 15PB's and gained 13 medals. Well done to the swimmers involved. All the times can be found under gala results on the City of Liverpool website which you can enter via our links page.
Club Swimmers shine on Day 2 of the L & D Champs
The L&D's were completed yesterday and again we have seen some excellent performances from our representing swimmers. You will note from below the number of PB's achieved on the day with Emma Grayson picking up her 2nd National time in a week and Liam Carlin taking a staggering 40+ seconds from his previous PB to land a Lancashire qualifying time.
L&D Day 1 & 2 Details
Not to be out done by the girls two of our boys have competed in the L&D's with excellent results. Liam Carlin and Andrew Billingham have both competed in the 50M Freestyle and 200M Freestyle respectively, finishing with excellent performances. Worth noting that Liam was less than half a second from a Lancashire qualifying time!
Lauren Shacklady and Emma Grayson both competed in the 200M Backstroke and again both had excellent results. Emma Grayson finishing in 2nd place within the 11 years age group and completing in a National Qualifying time! All the swimmers that have represented themselves and the club have performed excellently and we congratulate each and every one of them for their efforts.

An opportunity to meet the new City of Liverpool Coach
Mike Roberts the new City coach has offered a meeting for interested parents of Bootle and North Liverpool Swimming club on the 17th February in the evening. The number of people likely to attend will determine the time that we will meet. If you have an interest please contact us via the HOME page link and tell us so we can fix up the date and time of the meeting. This is a chance to meet Mike and get a view on where he aims to move forward with City and club swimmers.
2nd Place M&D Bebington Finish
Sunday saw a number of the squad travel to Bebington for what became a very close Gala performance. Whilst we had several swimmers swimming up we still achieved a credible 2nd place finish. Well Done to all involved and I look forward to detailing even better results in the coming events!
Winter Meet PB's for BNLSC Swimmers
After 2 1/2 filled days at Picton Road, the City of Liverpool Winter Meeting has drawn to a close. All the Bootle & North Liverpool swimmers allowed to swim at the event have performed really, really well. Jenny Howarth, Alex Fry, Emma Grayson, Sophie Sheppard and Kate O'Brien all achieved personal bests and looked very much at home in the new long course pool. We congratulate them all. If you wish to see the results from the whole event please check our links page and use the City of Liverpool link to check all the times from the meet.
Membership and ASA Fees - paperwork now available
In the coming weeks you will be provided with all the relevant paperwork to enable you to ensure your ASA membership and club fees are all in place for 2009. If you have any questions or need clarification on how to complete the forms please do not hesitate to contact us directly.
M&D Gala at Wallasey leaves us in the Dark!
Despite the best efforts of the pool the M&D Gala on Saturday 10th January was cut short by an electrics failure at the pool. We understand the event will be rescheduled but at the point of typing this note we have not had confirmation on a new date. Thank you very much for the Swimmers who were present and we hope to have more detail to share with you shortly.
Awards Night goes swimmingly well!!
Many of our Swimmers supported by Parents and other family members enjoyed a packed night in Maghull to celebrate the achievement of our Swimmers through 2008. Positive performances in the Echo Cup and Mcgonagle Invitation Gala alongside club championships were all awarded and a great night was had by all. We now look forward to Karen and the rest of the committee putting together our next social event.
Previous News
2008 saw some real developments at the club both within the pool and behind the scenes. The team reached the 2008 Echo Cup Final for the first time in 3 years which is clear evidence of our development as a Swimming Club.
Many of our Individual swimmers represented at various competitions setting records and creating PB's on their way.
The membership policy was changed to ensure Swimmers got increased pool time with the right coaches.
Technique and distance sessions have been delivered by the coaching staff ensuring we are ready as a club to take advantage of our developing position. As above 2009 is an exciting year for the club, and the advancement we have seen in 2008 should be considered only as a starting point for the future of all our swimmers!
