Guide to the four levels of licensed meets
All licensed meets are subject to ASA laws and regulations and the ASA Technical Rules of Racing. They are graded into four levels.
Types of Gala
As well as the M & D league and galas where our club is invited to attend as a club there are open galas organised by individual clubs including the City of Liverpool club. Swimmers attending open galas will be looked after at poolside by our volunteers and swim as BNLSC swimmers in our colours but compete on an individual basis. Medals are award, usually to the three fastest boys and girls in each year group. Age groups are either determined by age on the day or age on Dec 31 of the year. Swimmers must be at least nine years old to compete in open galas and will choose which events they would like to compete in from those on the programme. For stronger swimmers this is a chance to gain qualifying times to take part in county, regional and even national events. We have some county level swimmers currently and Matt-Jay has competed at the national level and there is no reason why your swimmer can not do the same with dedication. To compete in an open gala just complete the entry form and hand it and the fees into the desk before the closing date. |
Key swimming competitions in England
Getting into the sport of swimming you would start competing at lower level Licensed Meets. As you progress you work your way to the bigger events. Here are some key English competitions. All these events are inclusive of swimmers who hold a current national or international classification for functional, visually impaired or intellectual disability (S1-S14).
